2005

  • November 23 AUC Thanksgiving Dinner: Once again several Yale alumni participated in a family-style traditional Thanksgiving dinner organized by the American University Clubs of France. Thanks to Matt Oravetz who represented the Yale Club by volunteering to help at the event.

  • November 15 Yale/Princeton Chinese Banquet: 16 Yalies and Princetonians got together for our 2nd annual joint event. It was a lively evening of great food and great company. Thanks to Sally Katz for organizing.

  • November 3 Architectural Walk: Architect and architectural historian Ariela Katz '87 (Director of the Paris Program of the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation) led a group of 10 alumni on a three-hour walk in the 16th arrondissement. The walk focused on early 20th-century architecture and included a visit to Le Corbusier's Villa La Roche-Jeannere. After the walk, one satisfied alumnus wrote in to say: “I just wanted to applaud your efforts for putting together a fantastic alumni event! Wow! The concept was great and the execution even better! It had just the right balance of informational content and collegial informality. Formidable!” (The webmaster unhesitatingly seconds this opinion.)

  • October 28 Happy Hour with the American Club, Princeton Club and Stanford Club: Five devoted Yale Club members joined with our counterparts from three other clubs for an evening of discussion and drinks.

  • October 20 Harvard Booze Cruise: For the fourth year in a row, a number of Yalies partied the evening away at the annual Harvard Club cocktail cruise on the Seine.

  • October 21 Soirée France Amériques Jeunes: Several Yalies partied until dawn at this perennial favorite organized by leading French and American universities.

  • October 2 College Fair: We participated in the annual College Fair in Paris. Matt Oravetz and Everett Hutt spoke to hundreds of prospective applicants to Yale College for September 2006 (Class of 2010).

  • September 9 The 2nd Annual Jazz Rentrée Concert: The Yale Club helped swing into Fall while enjoying a fabulous evening of jazz magic.

  • July 6 Annual Meeting: Fulfilling our legal obligation as an “Association 1901,” the Yale Club of France held its annual meeting. The President's review of events this past year and the Treasurer's report of the funds available were approved. Elections for the Club officers were also held. The current year’s officers are listed here.

  • July 4 Yale Law School Event: The Dean of Yale Law School, Harold Koh, was in Paris for a day of lectures, debates and discussion.

  • June 28 Lecture and Cocktail with Yale Summer School in France: Yale Professor Lauren Pinzka gave a lecture on “Paris and the Literary Imagination” followed by discussion and cocktails. Alumni were joined by 50 Yale students studying for the summer in Paris.

  • June 22 12th Annual All-Alumni Cocktail Reception: Once again Yale was the lead sponsor of the must-attend Paris Springtime event. Yale had a strong turn out at the event in the Hotel Tallyrand.

  • May Admissions: For September 2005 matriculation (Class of 2009), we had two students admitted to Yale College. Almost all of the 35 applicants from France were interviewed on time; many thanks to our interviewers.

  • March 7 Dinner with the Yale Club: Twelve people gathered to hear Professor David Bell talk about Napoleon's on-going influence in France. Unfortunately, Prof. Bell was ill with the flu, but the guests enjoyed the meal and engaged in lively debate (about Napoleon, among other things).
