  • November 20 Thanksgiving Dinner with the AUC: As always, this popular event, organized by the American University Clubs of Paris (of which Yale was a founding member), was well-attended by YCF members.

  • November 19 Speech by Dean Robert Storr: For the fifth year, the Arts Arena at the American University of Paris organized a talk by Dean Robert Storr of the School of Arts. Many Yalies joined the packed house to hear Dean Storr.

  • November 17 Yale-Harvard Game Live Viewing: Yale may have lost the Game (snatching defeat from the jaws of victory after leading twice in the 4th quarter), but it beat Harvard in turnout at this well-attended event where a good time was had by all.

  • October 16 Dinner-Debate with the UC Berkeley Club: For our first-ever joint event with the UC Berkeley Club, we had a lively discussion on the future of supercomputers. The discussion was led by the YCF’s own Serge Petiton (Postdoc ’90), a leading expert in supercomputers.

  • October 2012 Yale Club of France named Outstanding International Club: The Yale Club of France is proud to announce that the Association of Yale Alumni has named it the Outstanding International Club for 2012. The award is given “for the international alumni association that exhibits overall excellence in programming, including a successful mix of educational, cultural, athletic, social, and community service programming.” The YCF Board thanks our members for their attendance and support.

  • October 5 Infomation session & cocktail reception for Jeffrey Brenzel, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions: As part of his first trip to Paris, Dean Brenzel addressed over 150 high school students about Yale and the admissions process. A small cocktail reception was held afterwards where Club members who interview applicants met with the Dean.

  • September 30 College Fair: Once again, we participated in the annual College Fair in Paris where volunteers from the club spoke to hundreds of high school students interested in applying to Yale College.

  • September 16 Walking tour of revolutionary Paris: For our first ever joint event with the University of Chicago Club, 12 Yale and Chicago grads participated in a walking tour (under glorious sunshine) with the theme of Paris during the French Revolution.

  • September 12 Harvard Peniche Party: Young Yalies joined the throngs of people at this annual favorite held on the Seine.

  • July 12 All-Ivy Young Members and Current Students Happy Hour: For our last event before the summer, current and recently graduated Yalies joined with other Ivy schools for a Happy Hour at Carr’s pub.

  • July 2 Annual Meeting: Fulfilling our legal obligation as an “Association 1901,” the Yale Club of France held its annual meeting. The President’s review of events this past year and the Treasurer’s report of the available funds were approved. Elections for the Club officers were also held. The current year’s officers are listed here.

  • June 23 Evening of Modern Dance: Club members attended a performance of the Paul Taylor Dance Company in which Michael Appuzzo ’05 is a principal dancer. Michael joined members afterward to discuss his career in dance.

  • June 19 Yale – Harvard Award Cocktail Reception with a Whiffenpoofs performance: The traditional awards ceremony and cocktail at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence had a special bonus this year with a concert by the Whiffenpoofs. Ambassador Charles Rivkin (’84) kindly hosted our presentation of the Yale Book Award to three high school Juniors. Over 50 Yalies attended this event.

  • June 13 18th annual All-Alumni Cocktail Party at the Hotel Talleyrand: A dozen Yalies attended this annual favorite held at the recently restored Marshall Center in the Hotel Talleyrand on the Place de la Concorde. The host was U.S. Ambassador and Yale Graduate Charles Rivkin (’84).

  • June 4 Yale Law School Dean Robert Post Lecture: Dean Post spoke to a full house with many Yalies in attendance as part of a new program between Yale Law School and Panthéon-Assas Law School. Dean Post spoke on “Constitutional Protections for Academic Freedom.”

  • May 23 Yale Day of Service: The Yale Club of France was proud to join with the Stanford Club to participate in the 5th annual Yale Day of Service. Members attended a lecture by John Woods, founder of Room to Read.

  • May 21 Concert by the Alley Cats with cocktail: The Alley Cats, one of Yale’s all-male a capella singing groups, was back in Paris for the first time in several years to give a well-attended concert to a group of alumni at a member’s apartment.

  • April 23 Dinner with Professor Ted Marmor: SOM Professor Marmor led a spirited and informative discussion about the current U.S. health care system at the latest installment of our popular “Dinner with the Yale Club” series.

  • March 27 Dinner with Professor Jay Winter: We revived the “Dinner with the Yale Club” series with a wonderful event. Prof. Winter led an animated debate with ten alumni about human rights, from the early 20th century to today.

  • February 21 Feb Club Party: For the fifth year in a row, this venerable Yale undergraduate tradition returned to Paris. A large turnout of Yalies feted at Kitty O’Shea’s pub.

  • January 22 & February 7 Evenings with Opera Singer Lauren Libaw: The Yale Club’s very own Lauren Libaw (’09) gave a wonderful concert of arias and artsongs on January 22 at the American Cathedral with many Yale Club members in attendance. On February 7, twelve Yalies gathered for a private dinner with Lauren, who, unfortunately, was not able to perform. Her accompanist played works by Gustav Fauré. Afterward, Lauren talked to the group about the difficulties of starting a career as an opera singer.

  • January 12 Talk by Professor Bruce Ackerman: Yalies made up a good quarter of the attendees at the Ecole Normal Supérieure to hear Law School Professor Bruce Ackerman talk about “The Franco-American Constitutional Tradition”. A member reported that Prof. Ackerman was “brilliant, informative, and entertaining as usual”.

January 5 All Ivy Happy Hour: Over 60 people showed up from many Ivy League Clubs, including Yale, at Carr’s pub to ring in the New Year for the inaugural event of 2012.
