  • November 25 American University Clubs Thanksgiving dinner: AUC offered an exquisite Thanksgiving experience at the Hôtel Edouard 7, a boutique hotel located next to Opéra.

  • November 22 The Game: This year, the match was streamed live from Harvard to an HD TV in the front of The Moose Bar, where 6 screens covered 5 different games, none of which could be heard above the din. A friendly crowd saw Yale beat Harvard, though Yale scored fewer points.

  • October 27 Quatuor Diotima & Hugh Levick (’65) in a contemporary concert: The award-winning French string quartet, Quatuor Diotima, known for their nuanced and virtuosic performances of contemporary music, performed a recent composition by Los Angeles-based composer Hugh Levick, who was in attendance to introduce his work. The program also included string quartets by Samuel Barber and Philip Glass.

  • October 7 Margaret Wrinkle — the release of the French edition of “Wash”: The award-winning novelist Margaret Wrinkle, a holder of two degrees from Yale, spoke at the Arts Arena on the occasion of the release of the French edition of her book.

  • September 18 An Evening with Yale SOM Dean Edward A. Snyder: Yale SOM Dean Edward A. Snyder discussed the modernization and globablization of SOM. He provided an update on the school’s progress toward its goals of being the business school most involved in its home university (distinctively local), most integrated into the world’s diverse landscapes (distinctively global), and the preferred source of leaders for every sector (distinctively electic). Alumni from member schools of the Global Network for Advanced Management joined us at the event.

  • September 14 Walking Tour of Saint-Germain-des-Prés: We toured the Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Sites included the Église Saint Sulpice, the Church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Les Deux Magots, Café de Flore, Place Furstenburg, the site of the most famous jazz club of the 40’s and 50’s, the studios of Gertrude Stein and Picasso, and the location of the Beat Hotel.

  • August 28 AUC Cocktail Party: We took advantage of the last week of August to mingle with American alumni before the big rush of “la rentrée.”

  • July 13 Informal Living-Room Concert by Ruth Gerson: Princeton, Wellesley and Yale alumni gathered for a concert and reception by poet-singer-songwriter Ruth Gerson.

  • July 8 Independence Day Celebration on the Seine: Five alumni clubs (MIT, Columbia, Berkeley, Princeton and Yale) collaborated to celebrate Independence Day on a boat docked on the Seine across from Notre Dame. The music and champagne were accompanied by Aaron Copland and George Gershwin performed by tenor John Paval and pianist David Triestram.

  • June 27 Cocktail Mixer on the Seine aboard the Concorde Atlantique péniche: The 19th edition of this mixer was spent on the banks of the glittering Seine.

  • June 25 American University Clubs of France 21st annual reception & summer cocktail: The event was held at the prestigious Hôtel de Talleyrand in the presence of Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Jonathan Cohen from the U.S. Embassy in France.

  • June 16 Annual Meeting: Fulfilling our legal obligation as an « Association 1901 », the Yale Club of France held its annual meeting. Last year’s minutes, the President’s review of events since the last meeting and the Treasurer’s report of the available funds were approved. Elections for the Club’s officers were also held. The current year’s officers are listed here.

  • May 20 Annual Yale-Harvard Awards Cocktail Reception: The U.S. chargé d’affaires hosted cocktails at the Hotel Talleyrand for the Yale Book Award, given to three high school juniors each year, and Harvard’s award of scholarships to graduate students.

  • April/May Tatiana Grigorenko A Liminal Square Exhibition: Tatiana (School of Art, 2010) had an exhibition at the American University of Paris of recent photographs taken in Kiev relating to the current situation in Ukraine.

  • April Admissions: For September 2014 matriculation (class of 2018), we had six students admitted to Yale College. Applications from France were steady at 53, which reflects an outstanding admit rate of 11%, much better than Yale’s 6.3%. Many thanks to our interviewers who managed to meet nearly every candidate.

  • March 11 Dinner with Yale graduate student Vinicius Lindoso: Vinicius discussed his research on the Comité d’Histoire de la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale, created in 1951 by the French government to conduct research on the war years and life under German occupation.

  • March 7 Yale School of Music Recital: Celebrated conductor William Christie, founder of Les Arts Florissants and a Yale School of Music graduate, introduced the inaugural event of the Arts Arena-Yale School of Music partnership.

  • February 12 Feb Club Party: Some 20 alumni assembled at Carr’s for the annual Feb Club party, a Yale winter tradition that has now gone global.

  • February 6 Dinner with Yale graduate student Sara Silverstein: Sara spoke to a dozen club members about her current research on the interconnection of state-building and development of international institutions in Europe after World War I, focusing on a transnational network of Eastern European doctors and health workers.
